정정숙 교수가 성경적으로 상담을 한다고 인정하는 한국상담선교연구원을 살펴보고자 합니다.

그러면 한국상담선교연구원은 무엇이 문제일까요? 가장 중요한 것은 한국상담선교연구원이 J. E. 아담스의 권면적 상담원리를 따르고 있다는 것입니다. 얼핏 들으시면, 아니 그게 무슨 문제란 말인가? 하고 생각하시게 되실겁니다. 그러나, 여기에 함정이 있습니다. 왜냐하면 이미 J. E. 아담스의 권면적 상담은 변질되었기 때문입니다. 그 증거를 실제로 보실려면, 앞서 말씀드렸듯이, 근래에 웨민에서 박사학위를 취득하고 오시는 분들이 성경상담(?)을 어떻게 하고 계시는가를 보시면 분명하게 확인하실 수가 있습니다. 모 대학교수님께서 책을 내셨는데, 책제목이 성경적***입니다. 그 책에서는 J. E. 아담스의 권면적 상담에 대해서 길게 말합니다. 그런데 결론에 가면 절충주의로 갑니다. 그런데 왜 성경적이라 썼을까요? 명심하시기 바랍니다. J. E. 아담스의 권면적 상담은 이미 끝났습니다. 그것은 더 이상 성경적 상담이 아닙니다. 그것은 정말이지 "절충주의 성경적 상담"입니다. 그것은 다만 일반상담이나 별반 차이가 없는 새로운 트렌드 일 뿐입니다. 더욱이 앞서 말씀 드린 노원석 교수 장원철 교수 역시 한국상담선교연구원과 깊은 관련이 있습니다. 이들 역시 절충주의적 성향을 분명하게 가지고 있습니다. 장원철 교수가 한 말을 꼭 기억하시기 바랍니다.

무엇보다 권면적 상담을 가르친 J. E. 아담스 역시 심리학에 대하여 원천적인 배제를 주장하지 않았습니다.
According to Adams,
Psychology should be a legitimate and very useful neighbor to the pastor.
Psychology may make many helpful studies of man J.E. Adams, What about Nouthetic Counseling?, the separation of facts from values such that no observation or facts of nature will be helpful in providing facts about values. Hence, Adam's criticism is not meant to apply to a psychology which stays on its own proper turf and functions as a purely descriptive science in terms of treating organic diseases via medicine etc. However, it is meant to apply to those expressions of psychology which illegitimately cross over to the therapeutic process. According to the BC position, all forms of psychotherapy are prescriptive by definition insofar as they attempt to address human nature in general, pathology, values and mechanisms for change. This activity, in turn, renders them unscientific. Thus, Adams objects not to psychology per se but to the "so called clinical and counseling psychology" which he insists is not the domain of scientific psychology but of theology and religion. 데이빗 포우리슨(David Powlison)은 누구일까요?
데이빗 포우리슨(David Powlison)은 하버드 대학교에서 심리학(BA). 웨스트민스터신학교에서 신학(MDiv)을 공부하고 펜실베니아 대학교에서 박사학위(PhD)를 받았다. 현재 필라델피아의 기독교상담교육원(CCEF)에서 교수와 카운셀러로 활동하며 웨스트 민스터 신학교에서 상담학을 가르치고 있다. 성경적 상담 저늘(The Journal of Biblical Counseling)의 편집인이기도 한 그의 저서로는 Speaking Truth in Love, Power Encounter, Competent to Counsel? 등이 있다. 저술가 일 뿐 아니라 미국과 유럽 등 여러 나라에 잘 알려진 강사이다.

The final position, the biblical counseling view, is presented by David Powlison. Powlison argues that “Christian faith is a psychology,” and “Christian ministry is a psychotherapy” (245). Biblical counseling attempts to work out “biblical faith into the particulars of our time, place, problems, and persons” (245). As such, biblical counseling is a distinctive approach to the psychological task, one explicitly oriented by Christian belief. Powlison develops the word “psychology” along six lines (Psych-1 to Psych-6): the raw experiences of life, organized descriptions of those experiences, interpretive models, the practical application of those models (psychotherapy), professional and institutional arrangements, and the ethos of the culture. He then provides a test case of how a biblical counseling approach would work through these six aspects in a particular counseling encounter. According to Powlison, biblical counseling is just one example of “practical theological work”: it seeks to apply Scripture to the complex circumstances of life (245).

이것을 부인한다는 것은 웨민을 추종하고 아담스를 추종하는 자들의 맹목입니다.
만일 이런 사실들을 무시하고 계속해서 제이 아담스의 권면적 상담학을 추종하거나, 데이빗 포우리슨의 절충주의적 성경적 상담학을 따라가게 되면 여러분들은 곧 성경적이라는 말이 얼마나 내포적 의미를 가지고 있는지를 모르고 여러분들의 원래의 그 순수한 열심, 곧 성경적으로 성도들을 목회하고 싶은 것이 사라지고 결국 성경적인 것과는 영 딴 방향으로 가게 될 것입니다. 그리고 이미 그 길로 가버렸기 때문에 벗어나오려고 돌아보면 이미 늦었다는 것을 아시게 되실 것입니다. 특히 그것이 '***협회"에 속해 있다면 더욱 힘들게 됩니다.
