“성경이 사람을 바꾼다” (저자 윤홍식 목사, 소원상담실)
“성경적상담”(Biblical Counseling)이란 매우 어필이 되어 보입니다. 그러나 실상을 들여다보면 여느 상담과 별반 차이가 없습니다. 이 책의 필자인 윤홍식 목사님께서는 2005년에 미국 웨스트민스터 신학대학원의 성경적 상담학 박사학위를 받고 졸업하고 2007년에 상담사역을 시작하셨다고 밝히고 있습니다(p. 16).
지금 웨스트민스터 신학대학원의 상담학을 맡고 있는 교수들은 다음과 같습니다.

이 분들 중에서 주도적인 역할을 하는 분은 “데이비드 포울리슨”(David Powlison)입니다. 그는 1955년 그의 에세이 “Cure of Souls”라는 글에서, 다음과 같이 말했습니다.

포울리슨이 서두에서 밝히듯이 프로테스탄트들에게는 포괄적인 상담모델이 없다고 말했습니다. 신학적 보수주의자들에게는 영혼을 돌보는 교육 프로그램이 없었다고 말했습니다. 포울리슨은 하버드의에서 심리학을 전공했으며, 수년 동안 개인 정신과 병원에서 일해왔습니다. 포울리슨의 IOTH 상담은 "정신 분석적"(psychoanalytic)입니다.
또한, 성경적 상담을 진행하는 분으로 손경환 목사님과 김경수 목사님을 말하고 있습니다.
손경환 목사님의 책들은 주로 미국 BCF에서 주 교재로 사용하는 “자기대면”(Self Confrontation)을 변형한 것입니다. 자기대면의 문제점은 이전에 제가 다루었습니다. 김경수 목사님에 대해서는 자료를 찾아보면, “성경적 목회상담 이론과 실제”(2011)를 저술하신 분이시며, “총신대학교 회복, 치유, 상담 과정 인기”라는 기사를 보면 “이상심리학”을 강의하고 있습니다.

이런 자료들은 성경적 상담이라는 말이 가지는 실체와 그 방향성에 대해 다시 한 번 진지하게 생각해 볼 필요가 있다고 생각합니다.
